BYOL H

This medicine contains the active ingredients bisoprolol and hydrochlorothiazide. Bisoprolol belongs to the group of medicines known as beta-blockers. It works by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors in your heart and the heart is then beating evenly and more slowly.  Bisoprolol is also used in treatment of high blood pressure and angina pectoris (chest pain). Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a group of medicines called thiazide diuretics, also known as water tablets. These medicines cause the kidneys to produce more urine, and in that way they free your body from retaining the extra fluid. Byol H is prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure (essential hypertension).

Is Byol H suitable for me?

Byol H is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it if you

• are allergic to bisoprolol, hydrochlorothiazide or to other ingredients of this medicine
• if you have acute heart failure
• if you are suffering from cardiogenic shock
• if you suffer from 2^nd and 3^rd degree atrioventricular block
• if you suffer from the sick sinus syndrome
• if you have severely slow heart rate
• if you have severe bronchial asthma or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder
• if you have Raynaud's syndrome
• if you have a tumor of the adrenal gland (phaeochromocytoma)
• if you have too much acid in the blood
• if you have kidney failure or acute inflammation of the kidneys (glomerulonephritis)
• if you suffer from potassium deficiency (hypokalemia)
• if you suffer from severe sodium deficiency (hyponatremia)
• if you suffer from elevated calcium levels in the blood (hypercalcemia)
• if you have gout

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breast-feeding
• have diabetes
• are fasting from solid food
• have any heart problems
• have any liver or kidney problems
• are going to be given a general anesthetic during an operation 
• have bronchial spasm
• have first-degree AV block
• have circulatory disorders of the heart caused by coronary vessel spasm (Prinzmetal angina)
• have reduction of blood volume (hypovolemia)

Byol H interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Byol H?

This medicine is available in form of a film-coated tablet.

You should take Byol H exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• The usual dose is one tablet a day, and the strength and/or number of tablets will be prescribed according to your condition and needs.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Byol H side effects?

Like all medicines Byol H can cause side effects, including:

Common:       

• increased blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia)
• elevated levels of uric acid in the blood
• reduced potassium and sodium levels in the blood
• decreased magnesium and chloride levels and calcium in the blood
• cold feeling or numbness in the extremities
• nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation
• fatigue
• increased blood lipids (triglycerides, cholesterol)
• increased elimination of sugar in the urine (glycosuria)

Uncommon:

• depression, sleep disturbance
• loss of appetite
• reduction of heart rate (bradycardia)
• AV block
• congestive heart failure
• drop in blood pressure
• bronchospasm
• interstitial lung disease
• abdominal discomfort, inflammation of the pancreas
• muscle weakness, muscle cramps
• exhaustion
• increased amylase
• reversible increases in serum creatinine and urea
