TANTUM VERDE

This medicine contains the active ingredient benzydamine which is an anti-inflammatory medicine with analgesic effects. It is used for the reduction of pain and discomfort associated with the inflammation of the throat, mouth and gums. These conditions include pharyngitis (sore throat), aphthous ulcers and oral ulceration. This medicine can also be used after dental (tooth) surgery, tooth extraction or conservative dental treatment.

Is Benzydamine suitable for me?

Benzydamine is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic to benzydamine, or other ingredients of this medicine

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• are allergic to salicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
• have a history of bronchial asthma attacks

Benzydamine interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Benzydamine?

This medicine is available in form of mouthwash solution and spray.  

You should take benzydamine exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

Dose for mouthwash solution:

• You should rinse your mouth or gargle for 30 seconds, using 15 ml (approximately 1 tablespoon) of undiluted solution, two to three times per day.

Dose for spray:

• Adults and children over 12 years: 4 - 8 sprays 2 - 6 times a day.
• Pediatric use: children over 6 and below 12: 4 sprays 2 - 6 times a day.
• Children (under 6 years): 1 spray per 4 kg of body weight, a maximum of 4 sprays at once, 2-6 times a day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Benzydamine side effects?

Like all medicines benzydamine can cause side effects, including:

Uncommon:

• photosensitivity (increased sensitivity to sunlight)

Rare:

• burning sensation
• dry mouth
• hypersensitivity reactions

Very rare:

• laryngospasm (spasm of the larynx)
• angioedema (swelling of mucous membranes and skin)

Not known:

• anaphylactic reactions (eg. hives)
