Product information

This medicine contains the active ingredients benzocaine and cetylpyridinium. Benzocaine is a local anesthetic, suitable for the relief of pain often associated with infection and inflammation in the mouth and pharynx. Cetylpyridinium chloride is an antiseptic that destroys a range of bacteria and fungi and to a certain extent impedes the development of the virus. This medicine is recommended for relieving the symptoms of pain, dryness and sore throat caused by mild infections of the mouth and throat (pharyngitis, laryngitis), inflammation of the gums and oral mucous membrane (stomatitis, gingivitis), and colds and flu.

Is Septolete Plus suitable for me?

Septolete Plus is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

  • if you are allergic to benzocaine, cetylpyridinium, or other ingredients of this medicine
  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to other local anesthetics,
  • if you are addicted to alcohol,
  • if you have methemoglobinemia, a rare blood disease in which the hemoglobin can no longer carry oxygen around the body
  • if your doctor says that you have a deficiency of a certain enzyme, eg. pyruvate kinase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and NADH-methemoglobin reductase

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • experience any difficulty breathing
  • are older than 65 years
  • smoke
  • have any heart disease
  • in children under 6 years
  • have open sores in the mouth
  • have a serious infection accompanied by high fever, headache and vomiting
  • have diabetes

Septolete Plus interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Septolete Plus?

This medicine is available in form of pastilles and oromucosal spray.  

You should take Septolete Plus exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The usual dose is

  • For pastille: Adults and children over 12 years: Dissolve 1 pastille in the mouth every 2 to 3 hours. The recommended daily dose is up to 8 pastilles. Children 6-12 years of age: Dissolve 1 pastille in the mouth every 4 hours. The recommended daily dose is up to 4 pastilles. Do not take pastilles just before or during meals. Do not eat or drink for at least one hour after taking the medicine.
  • For spray: Adults and adolescents older than 12 years: For a single dose, double-press the dispensing head. The procedure can be repeated every 2-3 hours, up to 8 times a day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Septolete Plus side effects?

Like all medicines Septolete Plus can cause side effects, including:

Uncommon:

  • hypersensitivity reactions
  • skin rash, itching
  • skin swelling
  • difficulty breathing
  • dizziness
  • low blood pressure
  • contact dermatitis

Rare:

  • nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
  • difficulty swallowing
  • burning sensation
  • transient numbness of lining of the mouth and throat
  • methaemoglobinaemia, blood disease
  • headache, fatigue, dizziness
