TOLURA

This medicine contains the active ingredient telmisartan which belongs to angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). These medicines stop the activation of Angiotensin-II receptors in blood vessels which causes the blood vessels to widen, and the blood pressure to lower. Telmisartan is prescribed for the reduction of hypertension and for the protection of heart when its function is threatened by high blood pressure, reduced or blocked blood supply and diabetes.

Is Telmisartan suitable for me?

Telmisartan is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic to telmisartan, or other ingredients of this medicine
• if you are more than 3 months pregnant
• if you are taking aliskiren
• if you have liver disease

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• get excessive vomiting or diarrhea
• have kidney, liver or hearth problems
• have raised aldosterone levels (water and salt retention in the body along with imbalance of various blood minerals)
• have low blood pressure (hypotension)
• have increased potassium levels in your blood
• have diabetes
• have renal artery stenosis (narrowing of the blood vessels to one or both kidneys)

Telmisartan interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Telmisartan?

This medicine is available in form of a tablet.

You should take telmisartan exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The dose will be prescribed according to your condition and needs.

• The usual dose is one 40 mg or one 80 mg tablet taken once a day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

• difficulty falling asleep

• fainting
• vertigo
• slow heart rate
• dizziness
• shortness of breath, cough
• abdominal pain, diarrhea
• discomfort in the abdomen
• bloating, vomiting
• itching, increased sweating
• drug rash
• back pain, muscle cramps, muscle pain
• kidney impairment
• pain in the chest
• weakness
• increased level of creatinine in the blood
