OFTALMOL

This medicine contains the active ingredient prednisolone which belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. These medicines are used for the reduction of inflammation. Prednisolone eye drops are prescribed for the treatment of inflammation of the eye (redness, swelling and itching) if the eye is not infected.

Is Prednisolone suitable for me?

Prednisolone is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic to prednisolone or other ingredients of this medicine
• if you have eye infections
• if you have increased intraocular pressure (glaucoma)

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

o   are using any other eye drops

o   are wearing contact lenses

o   are pregnant or breastfeeding

Prednisolone interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Prednisolone?

This medicine is available in form of eye drops.

You should take prednisolone exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• The usual dose is 1 to 2 drops in the eye(s) as many times as prescribed by the doctor.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Prednisolone side effects?

Like all medicines prednisolone can cause side effects, including:

• mild stinging, burning, redness or watering of the eyes
• blurred vision
• clouding of the lens in the eye (cataract)
• increase of the pressure inside the eye
