LINCOCIN

This medicine contains the active ingredient lincomycin which belongs to a group of medicines called lincomycin antibiotics. These medicines prevent the growth and multiplication of bacteria by stopping the production of some types of proteins that certain bacteria need to live. Lincomycin is prescribed for the treatment of severe bacterial infections such as infections of joint and bone, respiratory tract infections, serious skin and soft tissue infections, stomach infections, and tooth infections.  

Is Lincomycin suitable for me?

Lincomycin is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic to lincomycin or other ingredients of this medicine
• if you are taking erythromycin

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• have kidney or liver problems
• have diarrhea or get diarrhea when taking antibiotics
• are pregnant or trying to get pregnant or breast-feeding
• have intestinal problems
• have liver problems or kidney problems
• have asthma

Lincomycin interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Lincomycin?

This medicine is available in form of a capsule.

You should take lincomycin exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The dose will be prescribed according to your age, condition and needs.

• The usual dose for adults is 500 mg taken every six to eight hours.
• The usual dose for children is 7.5 to 15 mg per kilogram (kg) of body weight every six hours; or 10 to 20 mg per kg of body weight every eight hours.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Lincomycin side effects?

Like all medicines lincomycin can cause side effects, including:

• diarrhea
• dizziness
• nausea
• pain or irritation
• itching of rectal or genital areas
• vomiting
• skin rash, redness, and itching
• sore throat
• fever
