Product information

This medicine contains 50 mcg/1mL the active ingredient latanoprost which belongs to a group of medicines called prostaglandin analogues. These medicine lower elevated eye pressure by increasing the natural outflow of fluid from the inside of the eye to the blood stream. Latanoprost is prescribed for the treatment of open angle glaucoma and elevated intraocular pressure.

Is Latanoprost suitable for me?

Latanoprost is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

  • if you are allergic to latanoprost, other antibiotics or to other ingredients of this medicine
  • if you are pregnant or breast feeding

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

  • are pregnant, or breastfeeding
  • severe or uncontrolled asthma
  • had eye surgery such as cataract surgery or are about to have eye surgery
  • have damage to the area around the lens of your eye
  • have diabetes
  • have swelling of the back of the eye (macular oedema)
  • have ever had a viral infection in your eye (such as herpes simplex)
  • wear contact lenses 
  • have dry eyes

Latanoprost interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Latanoprost?

This medicine is available in form of eye drops.

You should take latanoprost exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

  • The usual dose is one drop of the medicine into the affected eye (or eyes), once a day. The best time to apply it is in the evening.
  • The drop is put between the lower eyelid and the eye.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Latanoprost side effects?

Like all medicines latanoprost can cause side effects, including:

Common:

  • gradual change of eye color
  • redness of the eye, eye irritation
  • irritation or swelling around the edges of the eyelids (blepharitis)
  • eye pain
  • light sensitivity (photophobia)

Uncommon:

  • eyelid swelling
  • dry eye
  • inflammation or irritation of the surface of the eye (keratitis)
  • blurred vision
  • pink eye (conjunctivitis)
  • skin rash
