PANTHENOL

This medicine contains the active ingredient dexpanthenol. Dexpanthenol is a derivative of pantothenic acid, a B complex vitamin. Dexpanthenol is rapidly converted in skin cells to pantothenic acid (precursor of vitamin B5). Pantothenic acid plays a part in both the formation and the regeneration of the skin. This medicine is used for the prevention of infection and for the easier and faster healing of superficial wounds and lesions of the skin such as:

• abrasions, cuts, scratches, sores, burns, harm to, dermatitis
• chronic wounds such as ulcers on the lower legs and decubitus ulcers
• wounds after minor surgery
• in infant care as a protective barrier against nappy (diaper) wetness and for the prevention and treatment of chafing, redness and diaper rash
• decubitus (bedsore)
• skin grafts (alternating with cortisone therapy)
• secondarily infected eczema and neurodermatitis
• cracked skin of the nipples in nursing mothers.

Is Dexpanthenol suitable for me?

Dexpanthenol is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic to dexpanthenol, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• know or think you are allergic (hypersensitive) to panthenol or other medicines from the group of bronchodilators (medicines for the expansion of the airways)
• notice an allergic reaction on your skin
• avoid contact with eyes

Dexpanthenol interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Dexpanthenol?

This medicine is available in form of ointment.

You should take dexpanthenol exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• Apply the ointment 2-3 times daily to the damaged skin, as needed.
• Nursing mothers: apply ointment to the nipples after each breastfeeding.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not miss any doses and apply the medicine at the same time each day.

What are Dexpanthenol side effects?

Like all medicines dexpanthenol can cause side effects, including:

• contact dermatitis
• allergic dermatitis
• itching
• redness
• eczema
• rash, hives
• skin irritation and blisters
