Product information

This medicine contains two active substances, calcium carbonate and magnesium subcarbonate. Calcium carbonate is dietary calcium supplement or antacid. It is used for short-term alleviation of the symptoms of excess stomach acid or for providing extra calcium when necessary. Magnesium subcarbonate is a mineral which is used in cases of low amounts of calcium in the body. This medicine is used in cases of heartburn, acid reflux, episodic stomach pains and indigestion.

Is Rennie suitable for me?

Rennie is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients
  • if you have severe kidney disease or suffer from kidney stones
  • if you have high calcium levels in the blood, kidneys or urine
  • if you have hypercalciuria (increased calcium excretion in the urine)
  • if you have low phosphate levels in the blood
  • in children and adolescents under 12 years of age

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

  • are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breast-feeding
  • have impaired kidney function
  • have intolerance to some sugars

Rennie interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Rennie?

This medicine is available in form of chewable tablets.

You should take Rennie exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

  • The recommended dose is 1-2 chewable tablets as a single dose one hour after meals and before bedtime. In the case of heartburn or stomach pain, this dose may be increased, but to a maximum of 11 tablets per day.
  • Rennie should not be taken continuously for more than 7 days without consulting a doctor.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Rennie side effects?

Like all medicines Rennie can cause side effects, including:

  • hypersensitivity reactions
  • rash, hives, angioedema (symptoms include swelling of the lips, tongue and throat)
  • anaphylaxis (including difficulty breathing, increased heart rate, changes in the state of consciousness)
  • hypermagnesaemia (with antacids containing magnesium)
  • hypercalcemia and alkalosis
  • muscle weakness
  • nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhea
  • milk-alkali syndrome
  • loss of taste
  • calcinosis (accumulation of calcium salts in various body tissues)
  • headache
  • increase in the concentration of nitrogen in the blood.
