This medicine contains the active ingredient acetylcysteine which is a mucolytic agent that divides substances contained in mucus secretions, so it makes them easier to eliminate. This medicine is used to dissolve secretions in acute and chronic diseases of the respiratory system and to facilitate expectoration in diseases of the respiratory system with thick mucus secretions (chronic emphysema, bronchitis, asthmatic bronchitis, pneumonia).

This medicine also helps protect the lungs from the harmful effects of inflammation and prevent further decline in the lung function.

Is Acetylcysteine suitable for me?

Acetylcysteine is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to acetylcysteine, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• if you are pregnant or breast-feeding

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• it is meant for children under 14 years of age
• have liver disease
• have had recent stomach/duodenal ulceration or phenylketonuria

Acetylcysteine interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Acetylcysteine?

This medicine is available in form of effervescent tablets.

You should take acetylcysteine exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The dose will be prescribed according to your condition and needs.

• The tablet should be resolved in a glass of water.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Acetylcysteine side effects?

Like all medicines acetylcysteine can cause side effects, including:

Uncommon:

• headaches
• tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
• fever
• increase in amount of mucus in lungs
• irritation or soreness of mouth, throat, or lungs
• nausea or vomiting
• runny nose

Rare:

• heartburn
• diarrhea
• allergic reactions
